Baci Dolci means “sweet kiss” in Italian. As such, these refreshing, fruity, slightly frizzante wines are gently kissed with a touch of sweetness.
Baci Dolci is produced by Cantina Colli Euganei, a cooperative located in the Euganean Hills of the Veneto. The name is given to the indigenous Euganei people, who made the beautiful rolling hills of vines and olives their home since pre-Roman times. The cooperative purchases grapes from about 680 local farmers, making them the true heart of the winemaking community in the area. They have been dedicated to producing outstanding wine and supporting the local farming community since 1949. Out of the chaos of WWII, a cooperative farming model provided stability, sustenance, and community that exists to this day.
As the winery is located in a nationally protected geographic area, care to the environment is a must. The Euganean Hills are a stunning collection of volcanic peaks located roughly between Verona and Venice, a few kms south of Padua, the burial place of St. Anthony. Beyond beautiful hiking trails and hot springs, the volcanic soil provides a perfect setting for local grape varietals like Marzemino which is blended into Baci Dolci Red & Pink. Marzemino has been planted in the area for centuries, and most famously was referenced in Mozart’s Don Giovanni opera, “Versa il vino, eccelente Marzemino!” (Pour the wine, excellent Marzemino).
50% Marzemino, 50% Merlot
After a gentle crushing of the grapes, there is a brief period of maceration with skins intact. Alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature of 37°– 41° F. Secondary fermentation takes place in closed tanks, creating a lively slightly frizzante wine.
A delicate, slightly frizzante wine with an intense, ruby red color. Fresh strawberry & black cherry aromas with hints of roses. Cherry pie flavors, medium-full bodied with refreshing sparkle to balance the semi- sweet finish.
Excellent as aperitif or with pizza, pasta or any other casual fare.
